What is a Sales Associate?

A Sales Associate is employed by companies or organizations that sell products or services. As a Sales Assistant, you are mainly concerned with stimulating sales. This can be done through customer loyalty, but also by setting up promotions and advertising campaigns. Usually a Sales Assistant sells a product or service over the phone.

What competencies are important in this position?

There are a number of competencies and skills required to perform the job well. Below are a few points that are associated with this position:

  • Commercial understanding: it is a must to have commercial understanding with this position. You know what the rules are in the market and how the converstion goes between organization and (potential) customer
  • Priority setting: a small client that fills your agenda will be at the expense of a larger client, in this you have to keep control
  • Integrity: even if it is about turnover, you actually make a contribution for both company and client

What training is available for this position?

If you want to work as a Sales Assistant, a mbo education is required. In some companies and organizations, a hbo work and thinking level is desired. The following courses are relevant:

Average salary

When you start working within this position, the hourly wage will be around €16 and the monthly salary will be around €2600. This salary often depends on knowledge, age and experience. You will see that the salary increases the longer you work or specify yourself in a particular field.
