What is a Delivery Driver?

The delivery driver (courier) is a logistics position in which one picks up and delivers packages or mail. The delivery driver is equipped with a van, car or bicycle. Delivery drivers work for almost all companies. Most work for logistics companies such as PostNL, DHL, UPS, GLS, etc. But delivery drivers also work for mail order companies such as Bol.com, Albert Heijn or Coolblue and finally you have delivery drivers working for food delivery services such as Thuisbezorgd, Deliveroo, local eateries and UberEats.

To become a delivery driver, you don't need an education. However, you do often need a driver's license, for either a car(driver's license B) or a scooter(driver's license AM). Should you need to drive a vehicle weighing more than 3,500 pounds, you will need driving license C.

Work of a Deliver Driver

The delivery driver has a number of duties. These consist mainly of picking up and delivering goods and packages. The delivery driver must do this as quickly and efficiently as possible. Some parcel or delivery services require some registration upon delivery. This way no fraud can occur and no addresses are forgotten. Finally, it is the job of the delivery driver to look presentable at the time of delivery.

What can you earn as a Delivery Driver?

On average, a delivery driver earns about €2,100 gross per month for a full-time position. The salary for this logistics position further depends on experience and the company you will be working for as a delivery driver.
