Working in the Netherlands

Everything you need to know before coming to work in the Netherlands.

A new job in a new country: that brings many opportunities. Working in the Netherlands means gaining experience, taking steps and building your future. Whether you choose production, engineering, logistics or an office position. There are plenty of opportunities to grow.

On this page you will read exactly what you need to know about working in the Netherlands: the sectors in which you can work, how working hours are regulated, what career opportunities there are and how you can progress to a permanent contract.

The sectors we excel in:

Logistics functions

From order picking to forklift driving in modern warehouses and distribution centers.

Technical Functions

Jobs as a mechanic, operator, welder or maintenance specialist.

Professional functions

Office jobs and leadership positions.

Production functions

Trabajar con máquinas, en la línea de producción o en fábricas donde se elaboran y empaquetan productos.

Shift and day shifts

Many businesses in the Netherlands run 24/7. That means that often in shifts is being worked on. What does that entail?

  • Day shift: you work during the day, usually from 08:00 to 17:00.
  • 2-shift: you alternate between early and late shifts.
  • 3,4 or 5 shifts: also work night shifts, often with additional allowances.

Good to know: shift work often provides additional money up by allowances. A day shift gives you more regularity. Which option suits you best depends on your situation and preference.

Advancement opportunities

In the Netherlands, advancement opportunities are quite normal, and at Job Invest we like to encourage that. If you show what you can do, new opportunities often arise quickly. Many people who start in an executive position later grow into a managerial role.

Examples of positions you can advance to:

1
Cooperating foreman
You collaborate but also manage a team.
2
Logistics Team Leader
You provide planning and management of an entire department.
3
Production Manager
Responsible for processes, quality and results.

From temp to permanent contract

Many workers start at Job Invest through a temp contract. That means you can work flexibly and gain experience quickly. But that is often not the end station.

  • If it clicks with the company and you show what you can do, you will have the opportunity to advance to a permanent contract.

  • This way you not only build work experience, but also security for the future.

  • Companies value commitment and loyalty and reward it with permanent jobs.

Broadcasting is often the first step, but certainly not the last.
